A glance at Gregor Eichhorn’s curriculum vitae can make sweat. Luckily, the admitted fan of the Cologne burger restaurant “Fette Kuh” (Fat Cow) chose the topic “Adaptation to heat in younger and older people”, i.e. the optimization of thermoregulation, as research subject for his doctorate. For us, this work turns coach Gregor, who has been working for us with small interruptions since 2015, into a valuable go-between to current (sports) science.
Before he settled down to research and work, Gregor took a look at the sports and training landscape of several other countries: After his bachelor’s degree at the University of Konstanz with a focus on training theory and rehabilitation, he went to Zurich as a performance physiologist, where he supervised various athletes and teams (e.g. Swiss Cycling, Swiss Triathlon, Swiss Ski). He then moved to England for his master’s degree at the University of Brighton. During his studies, Gregor was an assistant in the Sport and Exercise Science Consultancy Unit, where he conducted performance diagnostic and biomechanical analyses and was already involved with heat, more precisely: the implementation of adaptation protocols in the heat and hypoxia chamber.
When he feels like sweating himself, he has been riding his mountain bike more often since his road bike was stolen. But at the moment he enjoys to go trail running even more. His goal, the Ultra Trail Marathon in Wales was cancelled in 2020, but that just means that Gregor has a little more time to do some sweat studies on his own body.
